Music Playlist: Vampire King Trilogy

The Music Behind the Madness

Two moons surround a planet that's inhabited by vampires, elfkins, and humans.

Welcome to the Vampire King Trilogy.

Book One
Book Two
Book Three

Sometimes in order for me to write about another world, I have to surround myself around other worldly things.

Since I can't just project myself into space, lounge on a moon crater, and write away. . .I'm forced to discover crazy musical tracks, plug my headphones in my ears, and type away as the most odd things fill my ears.

When I think of Vampire King Trilogy, I think of strange electronica with a sort of an 80s influence.

Probably not what you figured huh? What happened is that the night before I sat down to write Escape, I saw the movie Drive and that soundtrack stuck in my head.

First of all, the Vampire King Trilogy was supposed to be a simple little love story about vampires on earth. Nothing too big or complex. However, as I'm writing. . . suddenly my story is not on earth and these vampires are no where near what I'm used to. . .

The song Nightcall is why my Vampires can shift into a king form that gives them horns and hoofs.

The male voice in the song is so freaking scary, yet hot to me. I kept thinking. . .Romantic Monster. lol.

The song Under Your Spell inspired Samuel and Brie's relationship.

The song A Real Hero really set the tone for all of Samuel's turmoil that he experienced inside of him as he battled with being what he was born to be. . .and what he felt was safe to be.

And that my friends is the continuous sound of music I heard as I wrote the entire Vampire King Trilogy.

Beyonce's Visual Album & What it may mean for the future

Beyoncé chose to release a visual album because she can see music.

What the hell is a visual album?

Apparently it is. . .

Fourteen Songs with. . .

Seventeen Videos

Believe it or not (especially with all these gifs of her), I'm not a hard core Beyonce fan. I do like some of her work and don't like the rest.

So...

At first I rolled my eyes at Beyonce's unique ability to. . .see music. But that was just hating. We all have a bit of hating fluid in us that flows through our veins when someone does something amazing. It's just what we choose to do once the hate fills us.

I decided to shake it off

and truly look deeper into what she was saying. . .

Seeing Music

Do you see music?

I say sure. We must all see it at times. I have smells and complex memories triggered by a few notes from a song. If I play music while I sleep, vivid and elaborate dreams are birthed.

Music is a powerful thing.
Many psychologist believe that music can alter your mood from happy to sad, depressed to empowered. Some therapist warn people about
choosing the type of music they play around themselves and their children.

Notes, lyrics, and rhythms can get in our head and breed many things.

It's why I try to stick with songs dealing with sex and positivity. . .because I like being nice and I LOVE SEX!

And this visual album appears to be a smörgåsbord on fun, fashion, art, confidence and sex. . .

But Visual Album. . .

The more I say it the more I'm getting excited about the possibilities. . .

Will more artists do this?

And how can a visual album translate in the literary world?

Whenever an artist does an innovative thing, I look at how I can steal and fix the idea for my own entertainment.

So what about a Visual Book?

Interactive novels exist, not many but a small amount. I've been playing with the idea of making the Santeria Habitat series interactive as well as creating a steamy interactive erotic romance. I just don't know how and believe the cost would be insane. . .

But this visual album is making me reconsider. . .

I think it would be amazing to read about a sex scene and visualize a sensual (done well) moment between the couple. . .

This world is moving forward with people who have stopped being afraid and simply dived into innovation without second guessing the disadvantages that can come their way.

I, myself, am beyond excited for Beyonce, her fans, the music world, and the possibilities for more

Here's a preview of one of her videos  from the visual album

Halloween Short: Pull Me Down by Kenya Wright

Pull Me Down is a horror romance short that I wrote due to this song that I couldn't get out of my freaking head.

The song is also called "Pull Me Down" by Mikky Ekko.

Any of you ever get inspired to write or create something due to a song? Either way, check out this awesome song as well as my short below.

Pull Me Down

Every night the mermaid appears, floats to the center of the bay, and watches me.
She doesn't move an inch
or make a sound
not until dawn,
where she dives into a wave and disappears.

She's watching me now.
With my wine, I lounge on the edge of the world,
closer to her than I think,
enough for cool water to tickle the soft pads of my toes,
but not enough to fall.

Moonlight sparkles on her emerald green skin.
Those eyes glow silver.
They're liquid mirrors encased in beauty.
Her hair flows out and ripples with the water.
I can't decide what color those strands are.
Sometimes I swear it's dark black
others instances blonde.
Right now, it flames fiery red and sears my focus.

The first time she came,
I tried to talk, but she never responded.
Now we simply sit in front of each other
 and gaze.

The bottle of wine in my hand is a formality,
to make me feel more normal.
I haven't ate or drunken anything since I first saw her.
It's been three days.
I'm not hungry,
not for food or drink.

I stand and shed my clothes.
Those eyes brighten to a blinding white.
It hurts to stare too long,
but I look anyway,
even while pain burns at my retinas,
even when darkness eats away at my view,
until I can no longer see in front of me.

I'm blind.

I still walk forward.
Blades of grass wisp pass my ankles.
Rocks bite into my flesh.
I continue toward the sound of waves crashing against each other,
hoping she'll pull me down at dawn.
