5 Erotica Genres that Freak Me Out

We all like what we like. Let's get that straight, but some erotica genres just freak me out!

In my browsing of Amazon erotica ebooks, I've found some crazy stuff, things that make me embarrassed for writing and reading erotic romance (which is different from erotica, but always thrown together, by non-genre readers)!

Anyway. . .

Before previewing the list, you should ask yourself this. . .

Do I really want to know the types of books that would freak Kenya Wright out (she's already a weirdo)?
Red or Green Pill, People!!
Additionally all tag lines under the novels are actually from their book blurbs!

I can't make this stuff up!!

The 5 Erotica Genres that Freak Me Out!

5. TEDDY BEAR PORN

I just get really upset for all of the innocent stuffed animals in these books.

". . .a woman whose insatiable lust was satisfied only by one thing… her stuffed teddy bear"

4. BEAST and MONSTER SEX

"When the angry T-Rex corners the huntress in a box canyon,
it seems more interested in her wet womanhood than in her flesh."

3. DOGS

In all fairness, apparently in these novels the dogs end up being Were-dogs afterwards. . .
thus making this not bestiality. . .just revolting.

"One dog will be the master until she is yelping with pleasure."

``
". . .the dog becomes overly friendly and, to Helena's surprise, the animal isn't only what it appears to be..."

2. More Mature than I can deal with. . .

And the WINNER and still Champ. . .

Best & Worst Places to Write a Sex Scene

Don't forget, there is a great Giveaway below for the book Queen of Hearts!

 BOOK SUMMARY:
Maya Cobb is a classic Gemini. She’s adaptable, affectionate, versatile, cunning, and she holds a deep-seated fear of commitment. Which means she’s the perfect match for Aquarius Erica.

Erica Jones, also true to her astrological sign, is friendly, honest, loyal, fiercely independent,  and detached. She hasn’t found a satisfying relationship in ages, and is ready to give up on love, even though she runs a dating service.

After a one night stand, fate keeps throwing them together in the weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day. Maya offers to help Erica plan the Queen of Hearts Matchmaking event, though she doesn’t know much about dating women.
Erica quickly realizes that while Maya bolted after their first night, she might be the only hope Erica has to save her business.
Astrology says they’re compatible, but neither woman can be sure.

Hi there Fantasy Floosies and hello to your loyal readers!
I’m back again to talk about one of my favorite subjects… SEX. J

Let’s talk today about the best and worst places to write a sex scene. Let’s go with the best first and then the worst.

Three favorite places to write a sex scene.

On a train!

Writing sex in a public place like a train really works well for me. It helps me focus on the writing and block out the rest of the world. I put on my music, and let it roll. The opening scene of my first erotic romance, An Affair Across Times Square was written while I was travelling around the south/center of France. J It was great.

   At Barnes & Noble!

Okay, so it’s a total writer cliché to be sipping a drink at a coffee shop/bookstore and typing genius on your laptop. But it works for me as well. The bulk of my third book, Queen of Hearts was written in the coffee shop of my local B&N, as was Spicy with a Side of Cranberry Sauce.

I like to spend all day there writing. So it’s not always sex scenes, but a lot of the time it is. I usually only write the really naughty ones with my back to the wall so I know that no one is looking over my shoulder and reading it! Drafts are not meant to be read in public after all.

In my basement office – late at night!

There’s nothing like writing the sex scene in the middle of the night, with the electric fireplace roaring, and low light, while the stars twinkle outside. It’s romantic and sexy.

Sometimes, if I’m stuck on a scene or whatever or need inspiration, I’ll do some research at this hour of the night as well. ;-p Research usually consists of me googling “best places to have sex” or a certain position. Sometimes it includes texting friends in the middle of the night to ask their faves.

And now for the worst places to write a sex scene:

While in a room with your family members. Nothing is less sexy than trying to write a sex scene while your parents, grandparents, siblings, children, or other relatives are in the room. I mean, ew, right? So if I’m editing a book, I can do it while watching some TV with them or in the same room as family members. Other than that? No way! Just can’t do it.

    During nap time.
The kids’ nap time, not mine. I don’t get naps. L I work with kids, and we get 2.5 hours of nap time every day. A lot of days I’ll use this time to work on guest blogs like this one, but when I’m on a deadline, like I was for Queen of Hearts, I’ll work on it during nap.

But writing a sex scene here is complicated! I have to worry about constant coitus interruptus! A kid wakes up, or another staff member needs something… or any other number of things. It doesn’t bode well for a cohesive scene. That’s why I’ll start a scene and there’s no condom and then by the end, Amy and Mason are rolling it off and throwing it out. No good.

While on a bus at night.

The brightness of the screen makes it too easy for nosy little old ladies to read the book from over my shoulder.

So there it is folks – the best and worst places to be while writing a sex scene. Care to share your thoughts? Perhaps you could give me your list of best and worst places to HAVE sex instead of write it? C’mon, your top three best and worst.

I’ll give away a free copy of my latest release, Queen of Hearts to one lucky commenter who leaves their email address along with their comment.

Queen of Hearts is on sale now wherever ebooks are sold.

Book Release, Kindle Freebie, & Grand Giveaway! by Tara Chevrestt

Book Release, Kindle Freebie, & Grand Giveaway!
Love Request by Tara Chevrestt

I’m pleased to share with you my latest release, Love Request.

This one is special to me because it’s not only the first romance I penned, but it features a “hearing-impaired” heroine, like myself.
I say “hearing –impaired” because really, there’s nothing wrong with Ciara. She’s not damaged or in need of repair. She just can’t hear as well as others.

As a reader, I grew tired of all the women in romance novels being perfect. In real life, many of us have disabilities—and they are disabilities others can’t see. And worse, they are disabilities others can’t understand, and a lot of times what people don’t understand becomes something they fear…and belittle.

This is where the bullying comes in. You see, this is more than just a romance novel. Open its pages, hit that Kindle “next page” button, and find out for yourself. Learn. Be enlightened. Relate.

Want to sample it first?

No problem. Available on Kindle and FREE for the next five days, is a humorous Valentine short story, Mating Instinct.

You’ll find the first chapter of Love Request at the end.
Thank you, readers, for celebrating this special time with me. Happy Valentine’s Day!

In honor of you, I’m giving away a print copy of Love Request, a plush dog, a lipstick for that special date, and 5 pheromone-soaked chocolate incense sticks!
WARNING: Be careful if dogs are in the vicinity.

Blurb: When Ciara Littleton finally joins Facebook to socialize without the limits her hearing impairment gives her, she looks up a childhood friend on a whim. In sending him that first message, she ignites the memories of a crush from twenty years ago. Can a simple friend request fix all that stands between them and maybe even lead to something more?
Hunter's plate is full. A recent divorce, a pregnant sister, and now, he realizes he's in love with a woman who lives states away. Can he overcome the boundaries of Internet romance to make this desire turn into something real, or will adversity and distance be their undoing?

This book was formerly titled A Facebook Affair and has been revised with a new ending.

Love Request has been named a LASR Best Book and is now up for vote on Best Book of 2012 Poll. You can cast a vote here. I’m so excited and so grateful!

FREE on AMAZON

Blurb for Mating Instinct:

This is exactly what you need!
It’s Valentine’s Day and when Ariel receives a package of incense in the mail from her Pagan friend and mentor, she isn’t sure what to make of the enclosed note.

Sure, she has some issues, but who doesn't?

When the smoke releases its magic, Ariel gets an evening of surprise humor and romance, and it is indeed exactly what she needs.

Her theme is Strong is Sexy.                                  Tara Chevrestt is a deaf woman, former aviation mechanic, writer, and an editor. She is most passionate about planes, motorcycles, dogs, and above all, reading. That led to her love of writing. Between her writing and her editing, which allows her to be home with her little canine kids, she believes she has the greatest job in the world.

She is very happily married. She shares a website with her naughty pen name: Tara Chevrestt and they have a Facebook page.

Guest Post: Why Fantasy Is Fun, by Marni Troop

 Hey Fantasy Floozies!

Author, Marni Troop is here discussing how the fantasy genre is more fun to write than other genres.

Before you read her post, here's a cool fyi on her ongoing tour giveaway:

Marni will be giving away a copy of Brian Froud's and John Matthew's How to See Faeries. Marni said, "Brian Froud's artwork is one of my inspirations, so it's very appropriate. Plus, it's a cool book!"

Make sure you follow the tour and comment. The more you comment, the better your chances of winning.
The tour dates can be found HERE

The fantasy genre has a leg up on all of the other genres. All writers begin their stories by asking, “What if…?” Only in Fantasy can that question be asked without conditions.

In Fantasy, the very laws of physics can be bent to our will. If the writer can make the universe believable, anything can happen. The same can’t be said for any other genre. Why? Because Fantasy is… fantasy.

But let’s not be that grandiose. Let’s step back a little and look at Fantasy in a much simpler way. Fantasy is what goes on in our heads. It’s our daydreams. Sure, in our daydreams we’re having a moment of afternoon delight with our favorite movie star or punching our boss in the gut or winning the lottery. Surely those are not real Fantasy, right? Well, wrong. That’s the awesome thing about Fantasy. As outrageous as we might choose to make our universes, what makes Fantasy so rich is that, quite literally, anything is possible. In what other genre can you say that?

In my series, “The Heart of Ireland,” I have blended the history of Ireland with the mythology of the Irish Faeries, which include their gods and goddesses. Because of the wonder that is Fantasy, I was able in “Journal One” to describe how the ancient Celts invaded Ireland and met the Faerie race.

I wrote about the violent wars between the two peoples, the blossoming romance of a human and a faerie, and the miraculous creation of Tir Na n’Og, the Land of the Ever Young. So why isn’t this considered Science Fiction? You can use multiple dimensions as a reason for the existence of Tir Na n’Og even though it is entered through the ground.

You could think of the Fairies as aliens. Aliens? No way! That’s the problem. The Faeries come from human mythology. To turn them into aliens takes away their nature. But if they come from Earth, then the fact that they would have inter-dimensional access would make them far more advanced than any other human race.

See? With Fantasy, the genre that allows anything to be possible, the Faeries remain mythological creatures that happen, in my universe, to have existed in human history. Neat, huh? Thanks for reading, everyone! Now, I’m going to sit back and practice some fantasy with my favorite movie actor.

 About the Author:

Marni grew up in a suburb of Washington, D.C., where she worked at and attended many sci-fi/fantasy conventions and bought several Tarot decks before going off to college. After college, she moved to Los Angeles to work as a story analyst, editor, ghostwriter and just about any film or television job she could find.

After earning a Master of Professional Writing in Cinema/TV-Drama from the University of Southern California, Marni started teaching others how to write.

Marni currently lives in Glendale, Arizona, with her spouse, two brilliant children and six crazy pets (11 if you count the fish).

Giveaway and Book Blast: Guardian of the Moon Pendant by Laura J. Williams

Hey Everybody! We have this awesome new book Guardian of the Moon Pendant! An excerpt of the book is below! Don't forget to enter the awesome 5 book giveaway under the excerpt.

Guardian of the Moon Pendant
by Laura J. Williams

The MacAlpin women are of a fierce clan, born from a rare bloodline that harbors a dark and powerful secret – a mystical heirloom called the Moon Pendant. It is the key to controlling the MääGord standing stones, a magical Portal into the Otherworld, the realm of the Fae.

Anabel and Izzy’s MacAlpin are two sisters, polar opposites, living separate lives.

Anabel’s life is going precisely according to her plan, a ring on her finger from her steady beau, Edgar, and medical school in the fall.

Izzy’s life is filled with scars and wounds from her past. Dubbed the “spare child” by her family and treated poorly, she rebelled, and now lives life by her own rules.

These two sisters’s worlds are about to explode when one of them must go to Scotland and fulfill her duty as the Guardian of the Moon Pendant, by recharging this magical heirloom with four elementals, air, earth, water, and fire, and then finally close the Portal.

There’s only one problem…

The Baobhan Sith – a vampiric faery who lures men in with her hypnotic voice, feeding on their blood or transforming them into Màrmann, her zombie-like warriors who do her bidding – desires the Moon Pendant to take control over the Portal, opening a gateway into the realm of man, helping her to seek revenge on the MacAlpin clan, and to quench her eternal thirst for human blood.

Anabel finds herself torn between a sinfully handsome Scottish warrior, Blane and her fiancée, Edgar. Izzy finds herself, angered by her sister’s lack of faith in her.

Both sisters are forced to help one another, but may end up killing each other in the end.

Will these two sisters put aside their differences before the final task to charge the Moon Pendant or will the Baobhan Sith, the vampiric faery, be successful and open the Portal into the Otherworld?

Excerpt

Straining, I peered down at the woman, her body hunched over and writhing wildly, contorting itself into a different form, joints twisting and popping, limbs elongating, breaking bones, crackling hooves pushing through her feet, her body hurling back to face me, her eyes animalistic.

Her spiny nails inched closer to my neck, seeking out the Moon Pendant, her nails long hollow tubes, outstretched from her fingertips, sharp and ready to slice her treasure off my neck. Her lips curled into a quivering sneer, exposing her sharp fangs, her talon-like nails lancing toward my throat as she swayed her weapons above my neck. “Time to pay, MacAlpin,” she growled, while two of her nails pricked at my neck and tugged at the Moon Pendant.

Laura J. Williams is a hopeless and lost cause, tucked away in her dark sleeping chamber, in her gloomy abyss of a writing cave, separated from the realm of man, chomping on chicken legs and quenching her thirst with large glasses of red wine. She is consoled daily by her rescued cat, baby-kitty, who only gives her love when she wants to.

Aye, it is a sad life she lives…

But, God danced the day Laura was born, the angels rejoiced, and the demons trembled.

She’s just another day-dreamer with a story to tell, doing her best to kick arse. She hides behind a shroud of anonymity, creating a world of lost mythical creatures, breathing life into them, and praying that someone will take pleasure in her work.

She is the warrior of the heroine, the sorceress of words, yielder of magic, teller of dark secrets, and the jester of tantalizing tales.

Hero Breakdown: Alpha, Beta, Gamma. . .Delta?

Lately, I've been obsessed with wanting to create a new type of Hero category in paranormal romance. . .Delta.

I know. I know.

WTF is a Delta?

Well, I don't quite know, so I'm hoping all of you will help me!

If you can, comment & give me five great qualities that a Delta Hero should have! (I'll give you a cookie. . .seriously I will send a cookie to your house if I love your five qualities!)

NOTE: Don't forget the Bad Boy Love ebook giveaway is still happening. Enter below! 5 books for one winner....including the The Burning Bush (ARC).

Okay, back to the Delta.
To be fair, I'll do a breakdown of how I define the other Hero categories (if you disagree. . .Good. . . then give me your definitions and list).

ALPHA

This should be easy to understand if you are a big urban fantasy and/or paranormal romance reader.

This guy is dominant! He rips and tears his enemies into tiny pieces. When he loves, he consumes and possesses his woman. He's also guaranteed to have a huge one (I have not seen an alpha have a little one yet. . .).

He tends to have the urge to say things like Mine! Mate!

Watch out. . .Alpha's tend to mark their woman--biting, draping them in their scent, etc

  • Think pretty much any character from J.R. Ward's series!

  • Barrons from Karen Moning's fever series!

  • Bones from Jeanine Frost's The Night Huntress!

  • MeShack and Zulu from my Habitat series!

My favorite Alpha?

CURRAN aka The Beast Lord!
 ROOOOOOAAAARRRRR!

BETA

The Beta is a great, lovable, and dependable guy! Mom's love him! He'll help the heroine fight or find the murder as well as open the door for her. He's perfectly okay with standing in the background as the heroine beats the hell out of people! Shoot, he may even need to be saved by the heroine a couple times.

  • Think Edward from Stephanie Meyers Twilight Series! (yeah I said it! Deal with it. . .he's a freaking Beta not an Alpha.)

My Favorite Beta?

Its a big TIE between Seth and Micah

SETH aka Sexy Writer!
(Come on writers need love too!)

MICAH aka Alpha of St. Louis's Were-leopards

GAMMA

NO I did not make this up!! I swear its real! People call some heroes Gamma!

So this one is a tough one to define, but in my research I've found the Gamma to have some qualities of the Alpha and Beta, BUT also some really undesirable qualities.

It seems that a Gamma hero can be:
  • disfigured, maimed, blind, etc

  • not immediately Sexy like the Alpha. . .it takes some time for the heroine to see his sexy qualities.

  •  has some sort of social or mental disorder

  • may turn many readers off, but in the end was just really misunderstood.

  • has a boat load of baggage

Think "Sick-in-the-head-millionaire" Christian from E.L. James' Fifty Shades series.

Think "Scarred and Eye-patch-wearing" Declan from the Nightshade series.

Think "Full-body-Tattooed and Guilt-ridden-depressive" Malkolm from Kristen Painter's House of Comarre series.

My favorite Gamma?

Terrible aka My-Simply-Not-To-Be-Fucked-With-Book-Baby-Daddy.

So what is a DELTA???

I would love to create a new hero for the genre. A guy that has never been seen before. . .a breath of fresh air for heroes.

Give me some qualities people!!!!
