50 Shades of Grey Art

I happened to be strolling Calle Ocho. It's a street in the heart of Miami's Little Havana. And what did I stumble on. . .ART!!

*swooning

And art inspired by 50 Shades of Grey.

Maggie Genova Cordovi

I must say that there is a certain darkness to the work that makes me love it so much! Additionally, and I'm no art academic, I just love what I love, but there's this sense of body detachment and sort of this struggle to find the light and sexuality within the darkness.

So whether you're a fan of 50 Shades of Grey or not, I just had to show this to you all. Check out Maggie's website for more artwork by pressing on her link in the caption under her name.

Street Art, Bitches!

I'm Miami all day, baby! But when I party, it's not at South Beach. It's WYNWOOD Art District.

Sounds familiar?

The area has been discussed in my books. Some novels that come to mind are. . .The Muse (gallery opening), Sexual Deception (whole book is set there), etc

Wood Bar, one of my favorite spots

Regardless, more books will be set in Wynwood and explore the crazy scene.

Building owners don't mind the art as long as their info is on there too.

The best way to know you're in Wynwood is to see all of the amazing street art covering every damn building in that area!!

Even the sidewalks, streets, doorways and phone poles are covered.

I love art, but Street art has a special lure for me. It entangles my senses at times. . .

The Raw and unapologetic part of this genre just grabs me!

The terms "urban art", "guerrilla art", "post-graffiti" and "neo-graffiti" are also sometimes used when referring to artwork created in these contexts.

Traditional spray-painted graffiti artwork itself is often included in this category, excluding territorial graffiti or pure vandalism.

Why am I saying all of this?

A book is coming people! It's in me to explore characters in the Street Art world!

Every time I come to the district, adrenaline fills my veins! I'm a kid in a real Alice in Wonderland!

And let me tell you. . . Wynwood never disappoints at night!! There will be more blogs on this amazing place as well as stories!!

Kenya signing out, bitches!

(sorry, I call my friends bitches.Take comfort in that.)

Death as Art

Death as Art

Artists in different cultures and times have portrayed death in both symbolic and literal ways.

a post card from Morbid Curiosity, the Richard Harris Death Collection

While writing The Muse, I researched the depiction of death in art and discovered this really insane artist that continues to push mega boundaries. His name is Gregor Schneider.

Why should you care about this dude?

Well for die-hard fans of The Muse, this guy is as close to a real-life HEX as you're going to find. For those who haven't read the novel, Hex is a huge part of the story and the main dark artist who takes the heroine on a very wicked ride through magic, death, and self-revelation.

I began reading up on Gregor Schneider due to all of these controversial articles he has in the press. The more I learned about him, the more the character Hex Castillo began to grown and start walking around in my head.

Here's some interesting and somewhat frightening exploits of Mr. Scheneider.

1. In 2000, he faked his death as part of an exhibition.

2. One of his famous art installations is a haunted house that people walk into called The Haus ur.

Visitors have reported having horrifying experiences while walking through the house.

The rooms' walls move in and out

The rooms also move around the house.

3. 21 Beach Cells
Scheneider took over Sydney's famous Bondi Beach and placed individual prison cells for sun bathers.

4. His recent art installation involves dark rooms that will blow fragrances into the air.

It consists of five silent rooms that a visitor walks through alone. The rooms are fairly plain - white, grey and metal walls. But the catch is that it's cold, pitch black, and there's no turning back. Each room is modified by tiny changes to get your imagination running and your heart racing.

5. Creating a place in art museums for people to die.

Schneider stated in an interview that he wanted to create a space in a museum where people could die. His argument was that society's horror of death was so much that we prefer to ignore it, leaving people to die in the clinical impersonality of a hospital rather than somewhere beautiful.

Thanks so much for learning about one of my favorite artists and my muse for The Muse.

The Art of Goodreads Reviewing: Tips from Baba

Floozie Kenya here.

This is a bit out of the norm, but I have a Fan Girl Crush on an artist.
What art form you ask?
Well. . .she's a Goodreads Reviewer.

And when I say reviewer, I'm not talking blogger or paid professional literary reviewer.

Baba's After Ben review

She's just your typical book lover that post books that she loves on goodreads, nothing more, nothing less (well. . .it is more).

She's a GIF SORCERER!

Baba's Liberating Lacey Review

She didn't make the GIFs, but she finds the best places to get images and places them in an artistic method.

Baba's Dark Tide Review
And even weirder about my obsession, she has never read any of my books. She doesn't read the genres I write in, so this is not some sort of promo author kiss ass guest post.

Baba's Leave Me Breathless Review

It is just that when she does a review I freaking want to hump her and then rush out to buy the book! I've bought almost fifthteen contemporary romances due to her.

Baba's Reaper's Property Review

In a normal day, I chat it up with Floozie Alica and it goes like this:

me: Did you see that review from Baba?
Alicia: Stop obsessing about Baba!!
me: ( I send the link to said review)
Alicia: oooooo  That is beautiful.  :-)

So, finally I said f*** it, and messaged her to give me some tips on her art (so that I can steal and incorporate them on mine. Bhahahahaha!).

So here she is. . . . . .BABA

Thanks Fantasy Floozies for your message and I feel kinda flattered. You know there are no special secrets at all.

The only thing I can say is:

- Always Be Honest

- Be Passionate in Everything You Do (including writing reviews).

Baba's Breath on Embers review
I know that I write my best reviews for books that I truly loved or highly disliked. I know that I'm not a very diplomatic reviewer because I tell it how I see it and if people don't like my attitude then it's their loss. I don't need to please any author or reader.

I want to be free to express the way I feel about a book.

- I love beautiful things like classic design/furniture, vintage stuff, black & white photography, architecture, flowers, shoes, g-star fashion, bags, etc.

I have a very good eye for beautiful things and I know what I like and what does not work out for me.
Baba's Exquisite review

Meaning, I don't add gifs at random

I want my reviews to look tasteful when it comes to color and style. Also, the gifs/pics should enhance my reviews, that's for sure. When I'm talking about a hot sex scene in my review then I sure won't be adding a pic that depicts a sweet kitty or flower.

Baba's Sins and Needles review

Unfortunately though, we are very limited here on GR since plenty of gifs and pics have been flagged lately and I have to be very careful what I'm going to post.

So, maybe that makes a difference too and if not then I don't care either.

First of all I write my reviews for myself and then I just hope that other people will appreciate them as well.

And last but not least...I love to add quotes. I'm a sucker for great quotes and it will always draw attention to the book.

I can't even remember where I find the best gifs/pics.

-All you have to do is use keywords, add the little term "tumblr" and start a search and there you go.

This is huge. I mean you'll find millions of great pics and the only thing you need is TIME. In fact, you'll need plenty of time because it's very time-consuming to search for pics/gifs.

I guess that's it.

THANKS SO MUCH BABA FOR COMING ON! I LOVE YOU (in a non-strange way).

Sunday Comics: Fate's Kiss Episode #1

Starting today, the Fantasy Floozies are providing a free web comic series that moves the story along each Sunday.  Make sure you follow our blog to be updated on new comics.  Enjoy!

Alania is a slave, and has been since she was four years old.

She has no memory of her family before then. As a child she would do house work for her master, and take care of the man guests her influential master takes in.

When she turned 13 her Master started the sexual assaults  and even though she has known no other life she still dreamed of being free.

At the age of 20 she escapes into the city. While hiding from the men set out to bring her back Alania runs into a vampire who defends her.

Although everything in his mind tells him to leave her there, Julian takes in the frightened girl and after finding she does not even have a name he offers her the name Alania. He continues to protect her hoping his vampire coven does not find out about him socializing with a human. Or that he has started to have feelings for her.

Such a tease Jackie! lol!

Make sure you tune in next Sunday for Alania and Julian's journey.

Check out the artist.   Jacqulene Sheats

"I may not know how to do it, but I sure can learn..."

A motto that has earned Jacqulene Sheats the title Jack of all Trades. Sticking her paws into animation, illustration, game development, and writing there is nothing she won't try at least twice.

The creative drive starting with Disney classics early in life, and fanning the flames with a deep seeded love for anime. She has been chasing a dream to release wild storms of fantasy upon the world one pencil and key stroke at a time.

Dream Inspiration: An Interview with Damian Willis

For those of you who have read my book Fire Baptized, there is a scene where the main character sets a Were-dog on fire. Talented artist and good friend Damian Willis recreated that scene for me.

Dangerous Alley

I absolutly love his work and had to have him on the Fantasy Floozie blog! So everybody, let's meet Mr. Damian Willis! As you can see from the picture he provided me, he has a great personality!

Damian Willis

Are you a self-taught artist or did you go to art school?

Bullet

The answer to this question is a little yes, and a little no. When I was going to school for art digital art was not as mainstream as it is today. The courses offered trained in classic fine arts. I did a lot of work with ebony pencil, chalk, and oil paints. The curriculum was a bit old fashioned and boring for my tastes.

I started delving into photoshop and corel painter. I read books and performed tutorials until it eventually developed into a hobby. I started to develop a portfolio of my work to keep log of my improvement. That portfolio landed me a job in the photography industry as a photo manipulator, then later in the sign industry as a designer.

For the art piece Scarlet Aquarius, the caption on your site says you had a dream about this image. Please tell me about this amazing dream.

Scarlet Aqaurius

The project Scarlet Aquarius was a gift for a friend. As the title suggests she is and Aquarius, and a red head. The dream for this image started off as a southern scene on the Mississippi river on a river boat type gambling ship. As I indulged myself more and more into the delusions of my imagination I felt that I wanted the scene to be more intimate.

I imagined a woman paddling down a river in the heat of the day. Spotting a reprieve from the sun she pulled her boat into a shaded landing and decides to read a book on the bank. Soon the temptation of the cool water on her skin was too much to resist.  After shedding her clothes the woman enjoys the crisp water. After taking a screenshot of this moment in time in my head I started to add essence of fantasy.

Being an Aquarius I wanted to see a kinship with the water and the creature therein. The koi fish nipping at her hair felt like a playful gesture, and gave the picture a more innocent look. Sadly my dream did not progress beyond that captured image. That one moment in time captivated me so much that I kept replaying it over and over in my mind until I was able to remember every detail.

Besides dreams, what other places do you get your inspiration from?
Jail Break

While dreams are my primary source of inspiration, music helps the creative process along. I love really ambient and moody music. I rarely gain inspiration from music with lyrics, unless it is in a language I don't understand. A musician's emotion and passion flow into my head, and I begin to weave a story to the beat.

When I find myself daydreaming a particularly cool scene I dwell on it and jot down the ideas and a rough sketch. I also believe that the less stress you have in your life, the more inclined you are to be inspired. Life can be inspiration, you just have to be ready to perceive it.

The fantasy floozie in me really loves the art piece Pain and Pleasure. What was your inspiration for that work?

Pain and Pleasure

Pain and pleasure was a gift for another friend. Her fascination with vampires is what inspired the image. I wanted to portray something sexy, yet dangerous. I highlighted the image around the eyes of the female to give her an entrancing look. The tattoos and eye color were little addons to make the image more personal. This images started as a vague idea and began to take shape the more I played with it.

What are you working on now?

Hah...I am working on too many things. I have many projects stuck in limbo. I think I suffer from creative adhd. In addition to my digital art, I also indulge in metal/leather working, bead work, and writing. To me there is no greater feeling of accomplishment than creating something with your mind and making it with your hands.

With that being said, my next big project will be finally machining a series of interchangeable melee weapons. It is an idea I have had for a while, I have all of my engineering and modeling done, now it is time for the machining process to take place.

In regards to your art career, what do you see yourself doing in five years?
Moonlight

I see myself continuing my life portfolio and filling it with art from all walks of life. In my professional career I hope to be working for myself in a new creative industry pioneered by myself and other like minded artists. I wish I could say more about the idea, because I am really excited about it, but it's too soon to let the cat out of the bag.
