Sex Games

Sex Games

A good game lightens the mood in almost any situation. For long-term couples, it spices the relationship up. For the single person, it adds a bit of excitement to the weekend.

What about sex games in a romance novel?
HELL YES!

While writing Theirs to Play, I checked out several erotic romances that involved game play in some way. Some shocked the hell out of me. Some were so titillating that my husband was woken up in the middle of the night. . .a few times.

Either way, here's my top three romantic novels with sex games.

His inhibitions fell away, along with his preconceived ideas of what sensible people did. Here, where each new round of play began, his desires spoke to him in the clearest possible tones.

My thoughts: This is not for the prude. Beware.

"Hold me," he growled against her neck.
But she was holding him, her arms tight around his shoulders.
And it wasn't enough.
He needed more.
Needed more of her to still the pain building in his soul

My Thoughts: Umm. . .this is a clear example of an Alpha Hero, so much that he may even need a new definition that is greater than Alpha.

Art grabs you like lust—inexplicable and irresistible. You could deny it, but then the unfulfilled desire just ate you up.

My Thoughts: This is the tamest of them all, but one of my favorites.

ATTN WRITERS!! Calls for Submissions

So you're writing or have written something, and unsure of who to send it to. . .

Well look no further! I've listed a bunch of Submission Calls below.

CALLS FOR SUBMISSIONS

Covet’s new Editorial Director, Candace Havens, is looking for fresh, creative, sexy new voices to bring onto Entangled’s Covet line! With a glimpse into what she wants to put on everyone’s must-be-read list, we hope to read your Covet soon.
Special call or not, we are always on the lookout for 50k-70k full-length Covets. We love alpha heroes, tough heroines, and spicy romance mixed in with a little magic. Think contemporary romance with a dash of paranormal. Some of the stories are light, others darker. Heat levels can vary

Regardless, romance is key, as is it being in a contemporary setting with strong category tropes. Some time travel will be considered, but preference is given to stories set in the here and now, or near future.

Some things we’d love to see:
- A great ghost story, but not where the hero or heroine is a ghost!  Just ghostly elements, please
- Gargoyles and other less familiar paranormal beings.
- Contemporary gothic
- Mythologies from other cultures
- Some of our favorite tropes are enemies to lovers, boss/employee, reformed playboy, paranormal military special ops series, ugly duckling, royalty, and I’d love to see a protector trope flipped so the heroine is the bodyguard! Also, we want a fantastic friends-to-lovers story with tons of sexual tension
- A witch book (or books!) along the lines of Kimberly Frost’s Southern Witch series
We can’t wait to see what you send us! Please submit all manuscripts HERE.

General Submission Guidelines:

  • Proven category tropes such as mistaken identity, revenge, one-night-stand, older brother’s best friend, enemies-to-lovers, best friends-to-lovers, bait and switch, matchmaker, sexy protectors, opposites attract, boardroom romance, etc. Bonus points if you combine a few of them into one story!

  • Sexy, capable alpha heroes paired with spunky and/or sweet heroines who come into their own by book’s end. Heroes must be in a high-powered or heroic profession. Think military (current and former), bad-boy billionaires, athletes, corporate tycoons, private security teams, firefighters, police, and small town-boys-done-good. Our readers love variety.

  • High heat level. We do not publish erotica or straight erotic romance (see trope requirements above), but explicit sex scenes and erotic elements/kinks organic to the characters’ sexual tastes are musts. Brazen books are steamy.

The fine print:
Manuscripts should be roughly 45k-60K words in length. We will consider novella-length submissions (15k-40k) if the novella is intended to kick off a full-length Brazen series.
Unless you are an established category romance author querying on proposal, manuscripts must be complete prior to submission.

To submit a manuscript for consideration, please click HERE

Writers of accepted stories will receive a one-time payment for non-exclusive publishing rights. All other proceeds will be donated to Room to Read.

Romance Anthology: Second Chances
Romance writers, we want to hear from you! We’re putting together an anthology of romantic stories about second chances. What that means is up to you. It could be a story about falling back in love with someone years later or maybe finding love after giving up all hope–or something else altogether. It can be historical or contemporary, even paranormal, so long as the story explores the theme of second chances. Sexual situations are fine, but we’re not looking for erotica for this anthology.
Stories will be at least 3,000 words. Submissions close November 1, 2013.

Fantasy Anthology: Urban Legends
We’re currently accepting submissions for a collection of stories based on urban legends that feature kick-ass female protagonists. Put your own twist on the tales of vanishing hitchhikers, Bloody Marys, or alligators in the sewers. Please note that stories must fit the fantasy genre, rather than horror, although dark fantasy is accepted.

Stories will be at least 3,000 words. Submissions close December 6, 2013.

Divine Temptation

BOOK SUMMARY:

Maggie Brock has everything under control.  Even her divorce, though painful at the time, registers only as a minor blip in her carefully constructed universe. Life in Prairie Oaks has once again returned to a smooth, predictable pace…until an angel shows up in her bedroom.

The angel is just as bewildered as Maggie about why he’s been sent to her, but their unsuccessful efforts to gain understanding of the mystery fade to the background as their relationship grows. Soon, Maggie’s biggest problem becomes the angel himself, as her feelings for him develop into something less than saintly.

While Maggie struggles to keep her desires pure, a nefarious being lurks in the shadows of Prairie Oaks, watching and waiting for the opportunity to fulfill his ambiguous purpose. Preying on her conflicted emotions, the demon manipulates her at every opportunity, but the one to deliver Maggie directly into his hands is the last person she’d expect.

Divine Temptation Quotes

I chose a quote from DIVINE TEMPTATION to represent each of my four favorite qualities in any story.
Something funny:
How ironic that the very symptom of my insanity also serves as my therapist.”

Something to cause ado:
She’d treasured every minute, but being with him was beginning to inspire more conflict within her than serenity.

Something sexy:
She didn’t dare expose her heart the way she’d exposed her body.

And something true:
You might not believe in the devil, but do you believe evil lurks in this world?”

Writing wasn't something Nicki set out to do; it just sort of happened when she realized writing reports was by far her favorite part of her investment consulting position. She traded stock allocation and diversification for story arcs and dialogue and now weaves her creative writing time in with the other activities of her busy life with her family in the Chicago suburbs.

Nicki writes with two goals in mind: #1 to keep the characters realistic, even when their circumstances are anything but, and #2 to make the reader feel. Her published works include
Three Daves, a light-hearted romantic romp through a 1980s college campus, Divine Temptation, a romantic novel of angelic proportions, and short stories “Sway” (available as a single), “I Don’t Do Valentine’s Day” (part of A Valentine Anthology), and “Impressionism 101” (included in the debut issue of Insatiable: The Magazine of Paranormal Desire).

Bang Bang: French Indie Art Movie HEARTBEATS

Saturday night, I found myself last Friday with a glass of wine, all kids asleep, and my husband out with his friends. So what does that mean?

MOMMY TIME!!!!!!!!

jumping gif photo: tumblr_l75qv4Tr1e1qbilz6.gif

I immediately jumped on Netflix and browsed.

What I found was HEARTBEATS!

Before I get into my FANGIRLDOM, check out the trailer!

This movie was Bananas!
I mean so damn good that I've been thinking and thinking and thinking about this movie all week!

It's brilliant and AMAZEBALLS!
Not only that but it's smart, the cinematography is enchanting, the acting is done so well I pretty much orgasmed by the middle of the movie, and the plotline. . . dear God I am a believer in this writer's work. . .I just need to find out who the writer is and then STALK Him or Her!!

It's
Dark

Romantic
Unusual
and
Frenchish

The only downer is that it is in subtitles. Usually I don't like subtitles, but this time it didn't bother me at all cause it was so fucking awesome!

So if you have time this upcoming weekend or maybe even during the week, try this movie! It will rock your world.

Then come back and tell me what you thought!

Awesome Book Trailers & eBook Giveaway

I absolutely love book trailers, but most suck BALLS. I mean seriously, most have stupid photos going by with some funeral music or even worst soft porn melody (not that I've ever seen soft porn or know what that is)

Then there are some ridiculous sentences that accompany the photos like "Meet Toby. He loves riding horses, but doesn't have the right woman to ride along with him."

Well, maybe that's because Toby is a DICK (not that I've ever seen a. . .oh nevermind)

Anyway, my mission in 2013 is to revolutionize the book trailer! I want them to be the next big thang! So in my efforts to succeed  I'll be revealing my top five book trailers every month! At the end of the post there will be an ebook giveaway where the winner can choose to win any of the five books from the Top Five Trailer List. Plus, if you want to check out the book just press on the book's title.

TOP FIVE BOOK TRAILERS FOR AUGUST

NUMBER FIVE:

Blackbirds by Chuck Wendig

I admit that it doesn't have a bunch of footage and music, but this trailer is haunting and makes me want to read the book. I put the novel on my TBR list after watching this pretty scary trailer.

NUMBER FOUR:

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

Apparently, the author did her own animation, which is freaking amazing. I don't usually read her books, but I would check this book out just based on the trailer.

NUMBER THREE:

The Perfect Mistress by Victoria Alexander

I don't read historical romance, but seeing this trailer makes me want to give the trailer a try. I love the music and the simple scenes that sort of give me a sensual vibe.

NUMBER TWO:

The Women by T.C. Boyle

Dude, looking at this trailer makes me want to pop some pop corn sit down and watch the trailer all over again. I mean I'm not even sure I know what the hell this book is about, but dude. . .dude? This trailer rocks!

Number One:

Dark Possession by Christine Feehan

I can't even lie to you. This may not be the best trailer of all five, but it's the only one that has some action scenes and features a blackish chick. I'm gonna confess that when I saw the blackish chick I was like, "Whoa, Blackish Chick!"

So out of all FIVE which one made you want to rush and buy the book? Why did it excite you? What do you think makes a great book trailer?

  • July 2013:  Japanese Mythology

Although our editor-in-chief loves Greco-Roman mythology, learning the folklore and legends of Japan opened up a huge window for her several years back. The lore was so intricate and lovely that it naturally stirred her curiosity. With Daughter of the Empire, first book of the Empire Trilogy by Raymond Feist and Janny Wurts that curiosity became an obsession.  We want to see stories that are saturated with the rich and gorgeous culture of Japan, and take that mythology into new and unexpected speculative territory.

CALL BEGINS ON FEBRUARY 1, 2013
CALL ENDS ON APRIL 30, 2013

  • August 2013: Revolution

"The most important scientific revolutions all include, as their only common feature, the dethronement of human arrogance from one pedestal after another of previous convictions about our centrality in the cosmos."
—Stephen Jay Gould

Revolution is one of those themes that can mean anything. An alternate history version of the Civil War. A galactic battle between humanoid and reptilian worlds. A coup in a coven of witches.  The range of stories within this topic is pretty darn close to infinite. And while you don't necessarily have to follow Stephen Jay Gould's opinion, you might want to consider Abbie Hoffman's.

"The first duty of a revolutionary is to get away with it."

CALL BEGINS ON MARCH 1, 2013
CALL ENDS ON MAY 31, 2013

  • September 2013: The Fae

What's not to love about the Fae?  Whether you're writing about the fairies like Tinker Bell or pixies, or the Tuatha dé Danaan of older Irish legends, this is the issue to let the Fair Folk loose in your imagination. Be sure you follow the will o'the wisp into new worlds—and take the readers of Penumbra along with you on your journey down the faery paths.

CALL BEGINS ON APRIL 1, 2013
CALL ENDS ON JUNE 30 2013
